Bringing a Much-Loved Lampshade Back to Life

My latest little adventure!

Sometimes a beautiful lamp base simply needs the right lampshade to bring it back to life.

A new client contacted me about recovering this unusual elliptical lampshade, which had sadly seen better days. The original fabric had completely come away from the shade and the plastic had split, leaving the shade in desperate need of repair.

The shade itself presented quite a challenge. The two elliptical rings were different sizes and shapes, making it particularly difficult to roll a new shade. It also had the unusual feature of two bulb rings, which I was keen to preserve. I carefully cleaned and prepared the original rings so they could be reused rather than replacing them.

I met the client to collect the old shade and took along a selection of fabrics so we could choose something that would complement her beautiful and very unusual lamp base.

She chose Kaffe Fassett Millefiore in Antique, and I think the result is stunning. The rich colours and intricate pattern work beautifully with the tones of the base, giving this much-loved lamp a completely new lease of life.

This is one of the things I love most about creating bespoke lampshades — finding the right fabric, working with unusual shapes and creating something that is completely personal to the client and their home.

Google Review from Jacquie

I found an old lamp in the garage searched the internet for a replacement shade but it is a bit of an odd shape with two lamps so no, I couldn’t find anything. My search turned to someone who could make one. I found For The Love Of Shades and Denise emailed me straight back and was immediately helpful, making suggestions and hints. She went out of her way to meet me so I could pass on the original lampshade. Once the lampshade was ready, she again went out of her way to meet me to pass it back. The shade is absolutely gorgeous. I can tell it has been made with real care and attention to detail. Denise gave me a quote for the lampshade and did not charge me as she had quoted as she said it was slightly smaller than she originally thought. I wholeheartedly recommend For The Love Of Shades to anyone considering using their services. Thank you Denise. You will be hearing from me again very soon!
